Mother’s Day in South Africa: In South Africa, Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in the month of May. People of South Africa celebrate Mother’s Day in its true spirit by acknowledging the importance of mothers in their lives and thanking them profusely for all their love and care. Young children present their mothers with homemade gifts while the elder ones buy gifts for their mothers. In South Africa, Mother’s Day is taken as an opportunity to thank not just mothers but also grandmothers and women who are like mothers. .

Mother’s Day is a day like any other for some, a magical day for others and a painful day for those who have lost a child or their own mother. Sad to say that some will be remembering the loss of the mothers. But as long there’s a mother figure in your life, you can celebrate it.

 

Every woman in the world likes to be a mother. The feeling of giving birth is nothing less than heavenly. For to-be mothers, the world revolves around that tiny bump which carries their hopes, aspiration and wishes for the future. Mother’s Day is a token of the entire humanity’s gratitude to all mothers because of whom we have a planet worth living 

I look at the moms that I know, and I think they are all amazing in their own rights. I know that there are many days that if I was in their position I would’ve stayed in bed and covered my head with pillows to block out the existence of all around me… but a mom won’t do that. Even if a mom is sick she is up taking care of those she loves. Moms are self-sacrificing… it is in their nature. I don’t think it is a trait that females are born with though… I think it is a trait that they acquire when they have a baby. Moms will go without just to make sure that their children… their husbands… their families are taken care of and have everything they need.

Mothers are like blooming buds, they spread the fragrance of love, beauty of care and color of happiness around them. They are never sad, passive or pessimistic; they teach you how to look at life with a positive attitude. Mothers sacrifice a lot for their children but they never consider it as their sacrifice, but they take great pleasure in doing so. Have you ever tried to understand a mother's heart? If you listen carefully to a mother, you can hear songs from a heart, which is overwhelmed with joy. What do these songs tell you? It tells you about her child and its cute little gestures. You don't need extravagant gifts to make a mother happy, the very sight of her baby is enough to make her heart sing with joy.

Talking to Khetsani Kadibeng,a Soshanguve resident from Block H explained .my mother is my cornerstone, pillar of strength and the only person who can see my pain through my eyes and silence. Through her I  learnt  how to  love myself ,learnt the meaning of unconditional love,  mommy taught and still teaches me  the value of independence,  that you can be both strong and soft,  You learn that it’s not easy being a woman and  You learn how to create your own happiness.

Despite of the fact that we have grown old and have our own children, a mother will always remain mother and we can weep as badly as we want to, in front of her, without being ashamed. No one can take her place in our lives and you will always seek her support in every sphere of your life. Since she is the creator, she is looked upon as a godly figure with reverence. Even Bible always suggests to honour and respect mothers before anyone else in the world.
