We all came to know about the 23 year old song
bird, real name Amanda Antony, when she participated on Idols season 11 but did
not get the winner’s crown. She introduced herself in our small screen during Idols season 11 2015; she garnered South
Africa heart during the season. She was on the top7 when she was sent home from
the talent competition. The Amazulu Hit-maker seemingly had passion and love
for music. It was a bitter disappointment for Amanda, but instead of throwing
in the towel, she used it as a life lesson. The award-winning artist is indeed the epitome of soil; she knows both the
taste of rural areas and Johannesburg, having to live both Eastern Cape and the
City of Gold. Her musical type is mostly influenced or resulted in her exposure
to the various ways of life. She went too many primary and high schools before
her family moved.
The Singer-Songwriter
enrolled at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) for her higher
education. She furthered her studies in Music studies. She graduated in on
record in 2015 with a Diploma in Music Education
Her
album, Amazulu, was released last year and weeks after and it went platinum,
selling more than 40000 copies.
Amazulu, the title track, is a fusion of African-inspired beats with soul music
and strong lyrical content with a powerful voice that makes this song a hit in
its own category in the industry.
Amazulu Album has indeed showed that talent doesn't count where you come from but how much talent and destined you're.The sales of her album has proven that she has a star quality. The 23 year old amazed people when she received 5 nominations from Metro Fm Awards (MMA16), from her first album and not a year in the indusrty. Her hit song "Amazulu" took South Africa by storm, in fact the song became a something a of a national Anthem last year. Black
joins a special league of Eastern Cape singers who have broken record sales in
recent years, Zahara and Nathi Mankayi. She recently worked with Ms Pru,Emtee,
Saudi ,Sjava and Sindi on a single titled “Phumelela”. The songbird, as destiny
have it, she is signed with the record and management label Ambitiouz
Entertainment after they apparently nose around for her.
The self-taught guitarists and
persistent youngster entered South African Idols in after not making it two times before,
she tried again and as faith may have it, she made the top 16 and further made
it to the top 10 ending up in 7th position.
The album is about a journey. There are songs in there about losing and finding herself, knowing her and thriving, songs about heartbreak, love, being happy and comfortable in her skin; and all these are all about the youngster stories. They are honest.
We vividly remember Amanda's
audition on Idols 2015 year, fast forward to 2016 -and she was there on a
nationwide tour promoting her album. Moreover, in 2017 she scooped an award .
Follow your dreams kids!
