Viewers of the SABC 2 award winning Afrikaans soapie were left with hands on their mouths, stunned and shocked when two of the hottest male characters made a historic moment for the show.  For the very first time ever, the soapie showed a same-sex kiss. They locked their lips in the middle of a restaurant after Simon Tuit (known as Logan) met with his lawyer to discuss his pending divorce.
We had jumped to conclusions that the Afrikaans soapie does not air homosexual scenes, but that completely changed when the local soapie aired a historic moment. While the soapie has been going through critique of how it has lost touch after +/- 3900 episodes; this came as an assurance that we still have something to look forward to. There still is after all the element of surprise. While the kiss was by no means the first of its type to be aired on South African television, it remained an important moment in the journey to LGBT acceptance in a country which enshrined gay equality according to historic post-apartheid constitution of South Africa.

There have been mixed reactions to the kiss; but the fact that there have been ‘reactions’ should say something.
